imagePPR Press Release - Sting - Bring On The Night DVD - 20th anniversary and first time DVD release of Sting’s 1985 concert film

“It’s a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at a band in the act of creating music”
- Peter Stack, San Francisco Chronicle.

“What Apted is attempting is to make us accomplices in this creation, to get to know these musicians individually, to have us begin to worry about the success of their first concert in Paris. He succeeds.”
- Sheila Benson, Los Angeles Times.

Buy DVD via US | UK | GERMANY, while the newly remastered 2CD can be obtained via the UK and the US. Released: 9th May 2005 Label: Universal DVD (catalogue no. 988 042-8)
Format: DVD (NTSC ONLY)
Always expanding the boundaries of pop music, in 1985 Sting embarked on his ambitious, first solo tour. Twenty years later and for the first time on DVD, the film ‘Bring On The Night’ is brought to new life with a high-definition digital anamorphic picture transfer and digitally re-mastered surround Dolby 5.1 audio. Included in this remarkable DVD are Police hits ‘Roxanne’ (UK No. 12, April 79) and ‘Message In A Bottle’ (UK No 1, Sep 79) as well as solo hit ‘If You Love Somebody Set Them Free’.
Originally capturing this historic event on film, critically acclaimed director Michael Apted (‘Coal Miner's Daughter’, ‘Gorillas In The Mist’) documented the formation of ‘The Blue Turtles Band’ featuring Omar Hakim, Darryl Jones, Kenny Kirkland, Branford Marsalis, Dolette McDonald & Janice Pendarvis. From rehearsals in an historic castle to performing their first live show at the Théâtre Mogador in Paris, experience how Sting pushes the boundaries of both music and film.
Sting began his career as the frontman and composer of chart-topping trio The Police. After disbanding the group in 1984, it was not long before Sting went on to replicate his early success and came to be recognised as one of the greatest popular solo artists. Unafraid to combine jazz, classical and worldbeat Sting succeeded in creating a distinctive sound immediately identifiable as his own.
Bonus material on the DVD includes music videos, a photo gallery and a personal playlist function which allows the viewer to determine the order in which they watch the film.
