Money For Nothing, a 25-year-old Dire Straits song written by Mark Knopfler and Sting, has been ruled too offensive for Canadian radio play. The reason: a listener to radio station CHOZ-FM in St. John's, Newfoundland complained that the 1985 song includes the word “faggot.” The offending Dire Straits 'Money For Nothing' lyrics are "See the little faggot with the earring and the makeup, Yeah buddy that’s his own hair. That little faggot got his own jet airplane. That little faggot he’s a millionaire." The CBSC ruled that 'Money For Nothing' can be broadcast on radio if it's substantially edited.

Stingus, you are such an ass at times, Money for Nothing was not written by Sting as you stated, Dire Strates borrowed the Don't Stand So Close To Me melody but it is so easy for your misleading statement to believe Sting had something to do with the "faggot" lyric. Pathetic Stingus!
It took 25 years to "ban" the song? Over um... OK yeah... if that is such a biiiig issue why wasn't it an issue 25 years ago. I remember reading the lyrics 25 years ago wondering why they had no problem with those lines yet Roxanne wouldn't be played by my local radio station.... grump.
As for Sting's contribution... I want my MTV...
In my case I want my MTV videos... back... now....
Dear Trini, check better the lyrics credentials, you will see Sting and Dire Straits mentioned. Regarding us being an asshole, I would rather say vice versa. Have a good day.
Stingus, the real fact about the authoring of the song, strange you don´t know it, is this: (quoting Sting)
"This is very embarrassing to me. Mark asked me to go in the studio and sing this line, "I want my MTV." He gave me the melody, and I thought, "Oh, great, 'Don't Stand So Close to Me', that's a nice quote, it's fun." So I did it, and thought nothing of it, until my publishers, Virgin - who I've been at war with for years and who I have no respect for - decided that was a song they owned, 'Don't Stand So Close to Me'. They said that they wanted a percentage of the song, much to my embarrassment. So they took it."
So Sting had nothing to do on the writing of MFN. Cheers!
Stingus, I don´t want to offend you and I think I´ve been polite. As this is a non official news website I just thought it is not needed to write the news as the official site or as the liner notes say (I think we all know that Sting is credited, by the way). So maybe you could add something in there, and if you even know the real story why not to explain it? That´s why I posted. It was my first post by the way and it seems it´s been disturbing to you. So yes, over and out.
