FANS WANT ROCKBAND THE POLICE TO STAY TOGETHER
Fans can sign up at www.policedontstop.com to convince the Police not to stop.
Heemskerk, The Netherlands – In a recent interview with Sun Newspaper Sting, front man of the rock band The Police, said that The Police reunion tour will end in New York this summer. His instinct tells him not to make a new The Police Album and to stop with The Police. (see http://www.thepolice.com/news/news.php?uid=5658 for full interview).
We, as The Police fans, think that The Police has to stay together! Their Reunion Tour became the top-grossing tour Of '07 and everyone who saw Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland live noticed that there is plenty of creative juice left!
We started a simple website www.policedontstop.com where worldwide The Police fans can sign up and explain why The Police should stay together.
Our goal is to gather as many reactions as possible to convince The Police band members to make a new album and to tour in 2009 with new songs. There is plenty of time to start up solo projects again after that!

I badly want new music from The Police, not more solo Sting music. I am willing to help out with this project to make that happen. I hope we all can.

You know, it is nicely thought, but if Sting himself tells The Sun (the biggest, baddest tabloid in the UK) that The Police will finish in August, he cannot go back on his word.
---------------------------------------------------
I don't think a petition will change something to the Sting's instinct.
I approve and respect his decision.

no disrespect meant, but it's clearly not going to happen. and it's quite humorous that people are insulting an album which has yet to be written or produced. it's even funnier that people expect that a police album would not resemble a solo sting effort.
---------------------------------------------------
What I find funny about this is how plenty of Police fans seem to recognize a wonderful chemistry and creative energy between the band mates.
I also love all three of them and the music they made, but it's obviously taken them less than a year to fall back into very old habits, after a break from each other of over 20 years! I went to see 2 shows within the first 6 months of the tour (+ few shows on DVD), and watched several dvds from concerts between october 07 and feb 08. And from my point of view, they are losing their creativity and energy, and worst of all their dedication (!) by the minute.
Speaking of creativity, it is open to discussion whether you call it creative to just play the songs in the way Sting already used to play them with his solo band, e. g. make a medley of "Voices/ When the world". One would think that a band with such incredible chemistry and creativity make up something that they can call their own.
All signs point to an end of the tour, like the band dropping song after song, and after a short while not even replacing them by other songs anymore. For a real fan, question is not "Beds too big", "Spirits", OR "Hole in my life": we want all of them. Not to mention tracks like "Secret journey", "Man in a suitcase" et al, which we best not even hope for, as they are not going to happen.
To sum it up, personally I am very glad this reunion tour happened, as I was too young to see them in the early 80s, but I do not feel the urge for this to go on for another year. I also second stingfan24's fear that a new Police album might become just as much of a disaster as a new Sting solo record might possibly become. Just imagine the high expectations in a new Police song! Disappointment is close at hand, no matter what they will come up with!
Im still a great fan of Sting, and if you play the songs of SL or BND in smaller, maybe acoustic arrangements, you will come to see they are still brilliant songs, just overproduced. Just as Hugh Padgham wouldnt stay producer for Sting's records forever, neither will Kipper. I am already very curious about the next Sting album! Police: Thank you so much for everything... now rest in peace before you damage our lovely memory of you!

Just to clarify, I do not fear that the next Sting album might be a disaster. I was merely pointing out that people expecting that a Police album would be much different in terms of the kinds of songs were going to be written than a Sting album were very humorously delusional. I have very high hopes for the next Sting album.
---------------------------------------------------
Sorry Stingfan24, I did not intend to interprete your words that way. All I wanted to express was that for a new Police album, the chances of it becoming a disappointment will be just as high as with a new Sting CD or any other new project by a musician of your choice - almost impossible to predict!
Of course, you also made a good point by saying that Sting would be involved in both projects, a solo record as well as a new police release. Personally, I also put high hopes in Sting's next solo CD, and I can't wait to discover it song by song.

No worries, Marc. I understand. I believe that the Police album would have carried such high and varied expectations from countless fans that it would be nearly impossible to please everybody and as a result the album would be viewed by many as a failure. The decision to not do an album together was undoubtedly made for many reasons, but I'm assuming one of those reasons is the realization that every single member of the band is a different person than they used to be, and a new Police album would be quite different from the old ones.
---------------------------------------------------
I'll try to explain my idea the best I can. Surely a new Police album would have been a tremendous risk. The typical case in which everybody is disappointed. But just think to the next Sting solo album. I think it will be a even more risky and challenging work. It will be judged by Sting fans AND by Police fans. AND by critics worldwide that attended Police concert during the Reunion Tour. It is a tremendous challenge for Sting, and he won't have any excuse. People will attack him whatever he does.... You must have a good courage to do this. I respect him for this decision and hope his next solo work will be of a quality equal to the risk.
