THE POLICE'S FINALE |
|
The Police CDs at eBay USA | eBay UK | eBay DE
In the next few days, The Police's third leg of their reunion world tour will be announced. It will begin May 1 in Ottawa, and continue through a number of cities they haven’t already gotten to in the USA through the month, and then will take off for Europe in June and then returns to the U.S. for all of July and part of August. Some of the cities include Buffalo, Columbus, Chicago, Kansas City, Omaha, and Orlando. There are about 14 cities in May and July, with a more or less final date set for Long Island’s Jones Beach on Aug. 4.
Elvis Costello is going to open every show with his group, The Imposters. The Police will play their still- unannounced finale in New York in August, and then that will be it, for all time. Sting has confirmed this. Asked what he will do when it’s all over, and The Police are finally put to bed, Sting answered "Go home to Italy and write. I’m going to pick a few olives," he said, and "think about new songs." Unlike some artists, Sting doesn’t find writing conducive on the road. But … is this really it? "I think it’s done, people came to see something from the past, and it was great."
Along the way, The Police will release a DVD of concerts filmed in South America from last December described as a "Valentine" to the group’s fans. So far no CD soundtrack is planned.
And, sorry, there never will be a new album of Police music. The Police is considering adding a couple of surprises in the last shows.

ok, I don't have crystal ball too, nor "Informed" friends inside Sting entourage but I dare to make a little hypothesis. There is a project to bring live in theather that wonderful cd "Welcome to the Voice" by Steve Nieve and Muriel Teodori. They are best friends with Elvis Costello and through him they approached Sting during the RnR HOF 2003 to finally produce the album in 2007. Costello plays the Policeman (lol) in the album. The fact he and his group will open for the Police let me hope the live project for WttV is going on.... It could be a wonderful thing. Not The Police.... quite the opposite, but Stng can surprise us once again. And he still could write a solo album. I forecast a very busy end 2008/2009 for him. We only have to wait.... ;-)

I know Sting controls the setlist so hopefully we do get some last show song surprises!

Sad that all good things must come to an end, but this reunion wasn't just a good thing...It was amazing and completely unpredictable. The Rise and dissapearance of The Police once again brings happiness and joy simultaneously. Yes, I am glad those are happy that Sting is going to be writing new solo music again...But let us not kid ourselves. The Police as a group were the definitive band of the 1980's and are undeniably one of the greatest rock acts of all time. Glad to see they finally got back together...Just wish it would never end.

Stingfeyd,
Could not agree with you more. Sting is amazing,
The Police are in another stratosphere completely.
It's sad but I never held out hope that the Police would reform and when I sat there in MSG in August I was in some kind of zone taking in every single note of that concert. Amazing indeed.

Never say "never". Haven't we all learned this about Sting? This tour was supposed to have "never" happened either. We'll just have to wait another 25 years for it...that's all!

What I wanted all along was a new Police song. I didn't need a year and a half tour. When the tour is over, it's gone. But a new song lasts forever. How hard would it be for Sting to record one new Police song? They could probably do it in a week or two. Come on, Sting. One new song. It's not going to kill you.

I'm not too surprised.
Basically this final tour had two major reasons:
* Pushing Sting's ego once again (Hey, I'm 60, but I'm still the leader of the once-biggest-rock-band-in the world and I'm still doing my workout, look at my biceps...)
* Providing a final, giant Cash-in for the Sting and his very obedient workmates.
I just can't imagine it was for any artistic reasons: I mean, playing the same setlist for nearly two years in the ever-same arrangements can't be too satisfying for a musician, can it?
I don't give a shit about Sting's new solo album: Once again one of those lukewarm pop-albums or perhaps another lute-album (god beware...). Forget it, that was it...

Im bringing a HUGE sign to Buffalo on May 3rd if I can get seats close to the stage. Its gonna read "I paid $250 Bucks and I wanna Hear "Secret Journey"
The Police will have over two months OFF! Sting could get creative and perhaps write a new Police song or change up the setlist!

i think the police are afraid to make a bad album. the expectations are too high.
some surprises mean for me at the last shows that they will cut the setlist! :) i am a bit disappointed about the tour because they played only the hits. they play the hits because they got a lot of money and have to fill the stadiums. but i am gladful that i had the chance to see the band!
hopefully sting will do another "ten summoners tells" album with vinnie, dom and david s. i don´t like his way into dancemusic or "worldmusic".

Lol, I like your thinking! :)
