NO NEW CD FOR THE POLICE |
|
The Police CDs at eBay USA | eBay UK | eBay DE
Well, some will love it, others will be disappointed, but according to our latest info, no new CD of The Police should be expected. The tour will finish in the USA in August, and that will be it.
There are some other things in the works though, such as:
- a The Police Tour book
- a The Police tour DVD
Finally, we will all be able to enjoy a new CD by Sting in Spring 2009.

Is there any more on this rumour about the James Bond theme? It seemed fairly far-fetched at the time, maybe even more so now...

To be honest.....I have enough Sting solo albums and I never bought the Lute one. I always wanted to have just one more Polile album but during the new Police tour..... when The Police kept on playing the same setlist each and every show...I knew just that this would be the end. No NEW Police songs were gonna surface. There probably would have been a NEW Police album if some NEW Police songs would have hit the setlist during the tour.
Andy should Join Stewart Copeland Gizmo band!!!!

To be honest, I don't have enough Sting albums myself and I think it's about time the man came out with something new. I did enjoy the side projects he's occupied himself with in recent years; Songs from the labyrinth was thoroughly enjoyable and the Police reunion tour was great if you caught it early (which I was fortunate enough to). Now, the distractions and hopefully the writer's block are coming to an end. A year will be a while to wait, but I have great expectations for the next album. It's going to be 6 years since Sting last released original work...a solo career record.

well, that's curious - i wonder what they are going to do with the "material" that was "already brought together" as reported on this very website just eight weeks ago...?

to be fair, blue turtle, i'm guessing that sting has gone back and forth about whether or not to do a new police album. earlier in the tour, when they were all sharp and having fun, i'm sure it seemed like a good idea to him and he said this is what would be next. now, however, it could very well be that sting's once again sick of the band and has chosen to keep the new material for himself and his band and stingus is merely reporting this as it becomes known. i trust their information.

i think stingfan24 has a point. i think the same.

Police enjoying tour but don't plan album: guitarist
3 hours ago
TOKYO (AFP) — The Police are feeling rejuvenated from their reunion tour but they don't plan to record a new album, guitarist Andy Summers said Tuesday.
"The tour is great. We are making the music; it is not the same every night," Summers told reporters on the last leg of their Asian tour in Tokyo.
The trio, who include Sting on vocals and Stewart Copeland on drums, suspended work together in the mid-1980s amid tensions within the group but never officially broke up.
The Police returned to the stage in May last year in Vancouver, starting a tour that has taken them across the Americas, Europe and Asia.
Summers, 65, said that fans of a wide age range were coming to their shows.
"In Latin America mainly, you have people in their teens, their 20s," he said. "It's healthy."
"It is interesting that our tour is so popular. Perhaps because much music now is the same," he said.
But Summers said The Police did not plan a new album.
"No project for the moment," he said. "We only work for the tour, we want just the old songs to be good. We don't work on new ones."
The Police, who brought together a mixture of rock, pop and reggae, released five albums between 1977 and 1984, producing classic songs such as "Roxanne," "Message in a Bottle," "Can't Stand Losing You" and "Every Breath You Take."
Summers acknowledged the relationship among the band members had its ups and downs.
"There are good days, bad days, like a marriage," he said.
The Police play two concerts in Tokyo on Wednesday and Thursday to wrap up their Asian tour. They will play two dates this weekend in Hawaii and then take three months off before resuming concerts in Europe.

Interesting how he puts that though: "No project for the moment" and "We don't work on new ones". That suggests to me that there is or at least was going to be new material, but they decided not to.

From Stingus.net in December 2007
Unconfirmed news, but our regular reliable source informed us that a new album by The Police is in the making, with a release date scheduled for autumn 2008. Material for the new album has already been brought together, and will be recorded throughout 2008. This would be combined with the release of a best of live DVD of the 2007-2008 worldtour.
More news as we get it.
Material already brought together? WRONG.

This is my guesswork on the timeline of this new music. Please, keep in mind that I am doing a lot of assuming based on the little that we know. First, there was talk that Sting and the Broken Music band did some rough demos way back in the day. After the labyrinth tour, the Police reunited and after a while of being with that band and things were looking real good, Sting took those rough demos and decided to use them for a new Police CD. As of late, the Police seem pretty tired and the setlist is unchanged. Sting is getting bored with the band, and as even Andy said it, the band relationship has its ups and downs. So, Sting decided to take those songs back and use them on a solo project. I'm also going to go out on a limb and say that during their time off, Sting will work on these songs either alone or with other musicians he usually hires.
