Sat Apr 07 2007 | NEW ALBUM BY THE POLICE ... OR NOT?

The Police CDs at eBay USA | eBay UK | eBay DE

While our sources have firmly denied this -also confirmed as such by Sting.com-, Andy Summers has hinted that the band may get to work on a new album after their forthcoming world tour. Andy, who attended a book signing and Q&A session for his memoirs One Train Later in London yesterday (April 4), said the reformed three-piece would consider making a new album after their world tour. He added: "If we do well with these concerts we may well make a sixth album. I can't see why not." Andy also revealed that the trio will be debuting some new material at their forthcoming tour, which kicks off in Vancouver on May 28 before heading to Europe in August. "We've been jamming acoustically lately and we've been really enjoying it," said Summers. "We'll be playing a couple of new songs at the shows in the summer."

Today the NY Daily News reports the new album of material has been rejected by corporate executives as sounding new much like a jazzy sting solo project.

The fans deserve a NEW Police album.......Give the FANS what they want! Or Re-Record songs for a greatest Hits Albums which was scrapped in 1986.

The NY Daily News stuff is garbage.

From Fox News on 11 April:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,265245,00.html

Meanwhile, rest assured that reports of a new Police album are untrue. Insiders tell me, as this column has reported, there are neither plans for an album of new material nor is there a demo of a new song.

The Police are currently rehearsing for their tour in Tuscany, Italy, at Sting's tranquil estate. Songs on the tour are and have always been just from the Police. No new songs and no songs from Sting's solo albums will be included.

"And the Police are and always will be signed to A&M/Interscope," a source added.

Right then. Andy Summers simply said they would consider a new album if they could make it through the tour together. There will probably be two new songs that they are recording right now for a reissued greatest hits package that will probably be released sometime this year, or something like that. After that, time will tell if they make a new record.

I've heard the interview and I believe everything Andy Summers said! Im just wondrering he they played "Mother" on the acoustic guitars? Probably now but Bring on the Night would sound Awesome! :)

I think Sting making an album with the Police would be a mistake and a step back in his career. He's without a doubt the more talented musician of the three, the other 2 are not even in his league. The Police were nice 25 years ago, but Sting's material since he left the Police is far superior. I also think the various band mates he has used particualy from Albums like "Brand New Day" are far more advanced than Copeland and Summers. A re-union concert tour for fun is fine, but it should be left there.

Sorry but Andy and Stew are good musicians. Sting is a better songwriter in a pop context but thats about it. I like the solo stuff myself but there is an x factor to the police material that makes it stand out more. Anyway, i suppose arguing about personal taste is pointless

I don't care either way, I love Sting's solo material, and I love the songs he's written with the Police. The Police influence has a little more edge and it's refreshingly different, but I love them both.

I just want new material. Whether that be two songs, or a new album.

Posted by: Plaster on Apr 13, 07 | 12:18 am
---------------------------------------------------

Well,

Let's just wait and see what these 2 songs are like. But all you have to do is ask oneself- what have Summers and Copeland done compared to Sting since the Police? Absoulutely nothing of course.

I still think as a career move for Sting, going back to the Police is a mistake. Again, if it's being treated as a hobby or experiment, then fine.

sting i Hope these songs are MUCH better than the crap ones you have written recently

no more new age jazz crap
listen to the executives

mr,

However Sting is inspired is fine by me. Despite what some people think on this post, the executives did not turn down the Police. No demo has been released.

I used to think like you, but whatever gets him writing new songs is fine by me.

I don't care who says what or what was writtin where, I just can't see these guys gettin together for this long and them not puttin their creatives minds togather on somthing new.It just seems to me that it will kind of "just happen" if it hasn't already. That's just my though.

Posted by: ProbablyMe on Apr 14, 07 | 3:04 am
---------------------------------------------------

Just because Andy and Stewart weren't in the charts after the Police doesn't mean they were doing "nothing", mr. Andy's released more solo albums than Sting; Stewart's scored more movies than Sting's number of solo albums (and the number of movies Sting's been in). They've been FAR more prolific. Just so happens that Sting is the better pop songwriter and "the face." We know now that the new Police album rumors are untrue, but I'd go with Andy's comments over a Fox news report anyday.

Personally, I haven't heard a good Sting album since "Mercury Falling" and that was almost a stretch. I'm a huge Sting fan, so for me to say that is almost crazy. But, looking back over his oeuvre I think that last truly great Sting album was "Ten Summoner's Tales." I feel he's been on auto-pilot for the past few years and getting the Police back together is a step FORWARD and a sign that he's acknowledging where he came from and how he got famous. Lute music? Okay--experiment, but don't make it a habit.

Posted by: Dane on Apr 20, 07 | 3:21 am
---------------------------------------------------

Brand New Day in my opinon was a fantastic album. Granted though the one after that Sacred Love was so-so. Agreed "Ten Summoner's" was a great album too.

I don't know, when I hear about band re-unions after 22 years. I think of old geezer bands performing at County Fairs.
Not that the Police are in the same category, we'll wait and see.

Posted by: mr on Apr 20, 07 | 9:10 am
---------------------------------------------------

Agreed, some reunions end up being County and State Fair gigs, but this reunion doesn't consist of geezers (they've ALL aged well--can you believe Andy is 10 years older than the other two?) AND this reunion sold venues out in four minutes or less. Based on a Stewart Copeland interview on his site (in the Krypton Forum section) it sounds like they're going to have some great arrangements of classic songs worked out by THE POLICE and not Sting barking out orders.

crank out a police album
