Sting CDs at eBay USA | eBay UK | eBay DE
Sting performed a private show last Monday 13 February at a Staples convention that took place at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas. He played for 90 minutes, and was in "perfect shape". Among the shows he played were Message in a Bottle, Synchronicity 2, Fields of Gold, Englishman In New York, Soul Cages into King of Pain, Every Little Thing, Walking On The Moon, Spirits In the Material World, A Day In the Life, Roxanne, Desert Rose, Next To You, etc. During Desert Rose, Sting invited all the ladies near the front of the stage onto the stage.

The band lineup for this show was Sting, Dominic, Lyle, and Vinnie. Maybe it was a warm up for the April show?

Are these tracks on "Hot Rats"? :-)) LOL otherwise...with Vinnie playing the drums - awesome gig!
---------------------------------------------------
Vinnie? oh man, is this true? Vinnie in a scaled down quartet....he was probably ripping full on for the entire 90 minutes. No fair. No fair at all.

If this news is accurate, then "No Fair" indeed. (heh heh) If that private show turns out to be the only "broken music" show with Vinnie in the driver seat, then let us both hope that it somehow someway winds up on DVD. It's about time that Sting released an official document with the Maestro on drums and this four piece combo, as well as the particular set list that is favored, would seem like the perfect forum for his talents.

I hope you're right...a DVD of this show would be fantastic, but somehow I doubt it will happen.
Who was this private show for, anyway?

Staples employees ...

Vinnie doesn't sound like he wants to do full tours anymore, or at least for the time being. So hopefully a few more sporadic shows pop up here and there.
I wouldn't mind seeing Josh and Vinnie alternate on recorded tracks for Sting's new album----when that happens.

I just got back from a trade show where Kenny Loggins played for employees and friends of Cerner (healthcare software - they are big). I made fun of it, but everyone I spoke to who saw the show said was brilliant. Imagine being some low level guy at Staples and instead listening to a boring rah rah speech, out comes Sting playing a full set - with the stripped down rock band. Or imagine you are small business owner and Staples invites you to meet with them to talk business and afterwards gives you tickets to Sting. I think it is cool for Sting to play these shows. I know it is sacreligious to say that, but these international corporate companies are staffed primarily by lowly types like you and me who are dying to see something cool. Sting played for Budweiser a couple years ago too, and of course Microsoft in NYC, and AMEX in Central Park, and others.

OK I only just read this properley! Vinnie? Thats way cool!! I like that Sting brings back some of his old musicians sometimes!! :) And oh yeah apparently Vinnie is a really good drummer!! ;)
Hang on, Staples as in the stationary company? Are you kidding?! Thats hilarious!! :D

I was there! Totally unexpected. It was a tight lipped secret until he appeared. Very intimate and he played straight thru with only a 2 minute break. It was part of a 20th anniversary celebration for the company.

Guys,
You got it all wrong, he put on a show that was so incredible. Very intimate setting in the Mandalay Bay event center, and he was in fine form, very entertaining and a great live unplugged performance.
Job well done and congrats to the Staples people to bring in such a talent.

Frank Zappa's "Hot rats"! this is one of Sting favorite albums as he said in that Sting & Gerry Richardson interview 2 years ago! Vinnie C. used to play drums in Frank Zappa's band......that's why he is so cool and so good at them!
