Sting�s �Back To Bass� tour in early 2012 will provide a platform for Amnesty International to raise awareness on the organisation�s campaign against oil pollution and human rights abuse in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. For more than two decades, Sting has been a proud supporter of Amnesty International and their work to promote human rights worldwide. This longstanding relationship continues today, as Amnesty volunteers will organise information booths, highlighting their Niger Delta campaign, at each venue along his 2012 �Back to Bass� tour. Mundial in Tilburg (the Netherlands) required businesses to act as guarantors for a minimum of 7500 tickets sold, so Sting at the Festival Mundial 2012 could be achieved. The concert of Sting was planned on the eve of the anniversary edition of the festiva on Friday, June 15 Sting in Leijpark. We received confirmation Sting will NOT perform.

A painting commissioned by Wallsend-born pop star Sting is going back on show in the north east this weekend. The 12ft-by-8ft painting of the Tyne, with the 60-year-old�s native North Tyneside visible in the distance, is back at the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle from Saturday until May. The painting, titled Northern City Renaissance, by Stephen Hannock, depicts the river as it is today, with the Sage Gateshead and Gateshead Millennium Bridge visible. Partially hidden under layers of paint are images and text relating to Tyneside�s mining heritage, including a photo of Sting. Sting and Trudie attended the launch of "the Bag Issue" at the House of St Barnabas in London. Trudie Styler has been patron of the Mukti charity for 10 years. Mukti has been working with the orphanage Karm Marg to provide us with The Bag Issue. The Karm Marg orphanage was set up in 1997 to give disadvantaged kids in India shelter, care, medical support and education, plus the skills and knowledge to create an income and build them a better future � hence The Bag Issue bags. The bags are 100 per cent recycled and made from elephant dung. The children at Karm Marg have created their own label for the bags: 'Jugaad', which means "something made from nothing". Jugaad gives the children a chance to be creative, learn new skills and pick up ideas about business. Sting has been named as patron of a �1.5m project by The Sage Gateshead to create a training base for young people. The scheme aims to transform the arches behind the venue into a purpose-built centre for disadvantaged and vulnerable young people. The project is currently based in temporary buildings and demand means the space is being outgrown. Wallsend-born Sting said it was an important project. The Black Eyed Peas charity concert that attracted tens of thousands of giddy fans to Central Park and Sting's 25th anniversary and 60th birthday concert at the Beacon Theatre raised more than $7 million for the poverty-fighting Robin Hood Foundation, the organization announced Monday. With an audience of 60,000, the Black Eyed Peas' Friday night show was the largest charity concert ever held on the Great Lawn, Robin Hood officials said. The concert was rescheduled months after a storm forced it to be called it off the first time. The funds came from VIP tickets to the otherwise-free Central Park concert, along with donations made via texts from the Great Lawn. Sting is backing an anti-smoking campaign launched by regional public health organisation Fresh, which campaigns for a "smoke free North East". The "Every Breath" campaign has been created to raise awareness of the dangers of smoking and encourage people to quit. Regional TV and radio activity includes a voiceover of a young boy reading the lyrics to the song. The campaign was created by Robson Brown. Sting said: "Many people across the UK are affected by lung damage and other smoking related illnesses, particularly in the North East where I grew up. The title might not be the official one, but comes close to the content of the new musical which is in the making with the words of Sting and Brian Yorkey. They are working on a musical which we reported on last year, entitled "The Last Ship", featuring music and lyrics by Sting and a book by Mr. Yorkey, who is directing. The story is set in the 1980s in Newcastle. The lead character, Gideon, is described as a man in his 30s: "Charismatic, charming, cynical, worldly-wise; quick to buy a round or throw a fist, slow to open his heart. Grew up around the shipyards of Newcastle, got out as soon as he could, coming home to come to terms with his family, his history, and his future." This is very similar to The Soul Cages concept album from 1991, still considered to be one of Sting's best albums ever. Sting cancelled a concert he was due to give in Kazakhstan�s capital Astana on Monday, blaming violations of the human rights of striking oil workers in the ex-Soviet state. Sting said in a statement published on his website that he cancelled the concert, part of his Symphonicity world tour, after campaign group Amnesty International told him of repressions against oil and gas workers. Symphony of Southeast Texas music director and conductor Chelsea Tipton II has announced he will spend the summer touring Europe as a warm-up conductor for recording artist Sting.
