Or was he joking?

Playing with Sting for 20 years, you would think he had a few million put away???

Dominic is a true smartass as you know Trini, thats why he took a dig at Sting being anal. I can't tell how sincere he was about being broke. I am sure he is not starving though. He is probably broker than usual and that may be a dig at Sting too, sort of saying move your ass dude.

"As most of you know I got back with Sting and did some shows. The line-up was Sting, Vinnie Colaiuta, David Sancious and moi. We met in Chicago to rehearse for a concert with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and a couple of band rock shows. The first thing we did was go through the rock set and the result was like putting on an old pair of shoes ("old" being the operative word). It was so, so easy. I think it's the first time I have ever played with Sting where he had absolutely no direction for any of us. Believe me, he can be anal with arrangements (hi Sting). This band allows him to do his thing while we do what we like because it can't really be wrong if you understand the role you are playing. This line-up so does. After going through all the songs once, we left it there and without even a word or a glimpse collectively knew we kicked ass and didn't need to rehearse again. We spent the rest of the week focusing on the CSO concert."

Once...they went through the songs only once. Even less rehearsal time than we could have assumed. And they proceed to effortlessly kick ass.
Impressive.

Oh, sorry. He seems to be in one piece. :)
Seriously, let's analyze this.
A professional musician who has not only performed for so many years with one of the most lucrative artists in pop history, who has also been able to contribute to various sessions with top artists in the field, who must have some expensive assets to his name as well, who is able to sell his very own product on some reasonable scale....
Broke? I highly doubt it. This is a grand example of hyperbole. Being aware of unfortunate circumstances that some dirt poor citizens have found themselves in during recent times, I can't help but think it is somewhat arrogant for him to even profess to being in such a situation. But such hyperbole can be easily forgiven, since he obviously meant no harm by making such a statement. He obviously didn't give it any hard thought before putting his words into writing.

I don't think he's broke unless he invested his money unwisely - which is possible but if that was the case he wouldn't be biting off the fingers that feed him in a way - Sting.

I feel it was Dom being Dom in his post.. much like what he did when he opened for Sting during Sacred Love saying he'd be over at the tent selling his CD's cause he needed to make some money to buy his wife a birthday present - or however he said it.

Well, one of two things is true: either it's fakery on the blog to stimulate discussion, buzz, controversy, or he's not paid well/treated well as a band member for Sting.

Very telling little sentence: "However, I am feeling wealthy in other areas. There is nothing worse than being loaded and a miserable **nt except maybe being broke and a miserable ..."

Meaning, clearly for those who notice these things, that Sting is a "loaded and miserable **nt"

No surprise there, at all. He has the whole world at his fingertips and couldn't be more miserable. Poor fella. Hope he finds his joy.

Maybe I don't get the irony of Dom's posts, but I'm getting fed up of hearing him moaning day by day about how he's missing the luxury of stardom....
Broke?? Let's be serious, he cannot by any means be broke as in the common meaning people give to such word....do you really believe he has no money for a new pair of glasses??
As I said, maybe it's me, but nonetheless he should give up playing the smartass who keeps on regretting past glories (and monies).
As if it was Sting's fault!
I guess he was paid good money to get back with Sting again even if it was a one-off performance.
Please somebody kick him in the but (not literally LOL) and help him get over the Police reunion...it's not that he had a divine right to be Sting's guitarist and anyway the reunion's been long over. Sting called him back as soon as he needed him so it is evident that he still relies on his abilities...
enough of these complaints!

i agree ssolli. All Dom has been doing is bitchin and moaning like a little school girl since the police got back. He is not even that great of a guitarist to begin with. When the police reunite again, he will be in corner sucking his thumb

Well my post had nothing to do with Dom's artistic skills, which cannot be questioned methinks. I didn't question Dom as an artist (far from it, I love his playing), but that's also true that for the past couple of years he's indeed been complaining like a little girl.
Fair enough, he's human too and his are very human feelings...
But what surprised me is that in all his moanings he hardly ever said that he missed the vibe coming from playing in front of thousands of people, or the pleasure of rocking a big venue to its very foundations, or playing with a legend and some of the best musicians in the music business.
He always put great emphasis on the fact that he missed the fancy hotels, the fancy planes, luxury cooking, the shitloads of money, he praised Chris Botti for letting him enjoy the star-treatment when he was invited to perform at one of his TV gigs...
While I fully understand that such different lives (with Sting and w/o Sting) may take a while getting used to, this ongoing bitching made him sound like a spoiled brat and I just didn't expect him to be like that.
That said, I'll be more than happy to see him at Sting's side at any tour.

I thought it was a joke, but based on the closing part of his post, he really seems to be putting himself out there.

We "know" Dominic as Sting fans, but then again, we don't really know the first thing about him. He may have extended family to support, financial investments that are struggling in this economy, may have made bad business decisions, may have lived beyond his means between tours, or for all we know, a really warped sense of what "broke" means. ;-)

In any case, he is an incredible guitarist that is an integral part of the live sound that made me a Sting fan (way back during the Soul Cages tour), and speaking from firsthand experience, an approachable, down-to-earth nice guy. Personally, I can't criticize him on his financial situation because I don't know the whole story (only what he chose to share online). It doesn't really matter to me. What I *really* want to know is when that classic four-piece is reuniting for an album and tour. :)

And baht - I'm totally with you on how amazing that group is. They didn't need to rehearse, because what they had (have!) is organic, natural, and real. You can't rehearse/over-rehearse that kind of chemistry. It just happens, and the listener is lucky for it. :)

he will surely be paid for these......
From Sting.com:

Fresh from his recent dates with Sting, Dominic Miller is about to play seven dates across the US with Peter Kater.

The dates are:

July 23 - Maui, HI - Maui Arts & Cultural Center
July 25 - Boulder, CO - Chautauqua Auditorium
July 26 - Breckenridge, CO - River Walk Center
July 27 - Santa Fe, NM - Santuario De Guadalupe
July 28 - Sedona, AZ - Creative Life Center
July 29 - Georgetown, WA - Blues Alley
July 30 - Hampton, VA - American Theatre

The tour with Dominic and Peter will be filmed and a beautiful program will be created with lots of beautiful imagery from our natural world. The look and feel will be similar to the music video for their song 'Close To You' from the 'In A Dream' album.

I am not sure dominic is having a go at STING but if he is SO WHAT?I have had plenty of complaints about my employers over the years, and are some of you saying that you have never critisised your boss or managers in your places of work?At the end of the day,STING is the boss ,and if he was not happy with DOM,then he would show him the door.We have no idea how much DOM is paid, and we have not got a clue what STING is actually like in private, something DOM actually knows far more about then you or i ever will.

If Dominic is broke perhaps he could get that lute back off Sting and sell it... would make him a bit of cash... and stop Sting making any more lute records... !!!

Whether or not he is broke is difficult to say based on the fact that while on stage he always dresses as if he is broke.lol

True but clothing that makes you look "broke" usually cost so blasted much that you end up being "broke". :D

I agree with Gonefishing it was just Dom being Dom, and he is really doing fine. And Sting doesn't always dress real well either. I think they just want to be relaxed.

Seems irony doesn't work well in print because most of you just didn't get the joke. Sting can take a few digs at his expense. Most of his life he hears people telling him how amazing and wonderful he is, he'd probably appreciate hearing more honest down to earth opinions.
