There's an English translation on the Sting.com website. He said he likes to eat wild boar. I thought he was an environmentalist, yet he eats wild animals. Sounds hypocritical to me.

"Fortunately I can still play but I don't ride my bicycle any more," said the singer, who told the audience his favourite local dish was stewed wild boar.

You know, QB, he has been quite a wild bore for some time. Pity that he got dull with age. He was a very exciting artist when he was younger. He also spoke in far less cliches. I still admire his earlier work up until Brand New Day.

Anyway thanks micra. So I guess those of us who are not vegetarians Munch cannot be environmentalists????????????? I guess we are in BIG trouble then. I eat cows and pigs a lot, because in Nebraska thats what some farmers do raise cattle and hogs for food. Oh chickens too.

And maybe you should know that this year some wild boars must be killed anyway because of their damage to agriculture and human settlements.
Sting produces meat, ham and so on. Why shouldn't he also eat them? He would be hypocrital making money saying I'm a vegetarian! p.s.: I love eating meat and find hypocrital the vegetarian position. I think they wear suede shoes.... But I don't want to fire another polemic here. God knows if we need another one! Mar 12, 09 | 2:44 am

I don't wear suede shoes - as a matter of fact.
And thank you for making my point Micra - You say that wild boars must be killed because they damage human agriculture and settlements. Guess what? Rainforests are being burnt for the exact same reason: because farmers need the soil to grow food for cows so you could eat your delicious meat. So you could be happy that like you are like Sting - preaching one thing ... and behaving in another way. Sting is not a sacred cow, you know. He can do great things and he can also do really stupid things. This is one very stupid thing. Mar 12, 09 | 4:22 am

nonononononononono!
Munch, you are totally missing the point! YOU need agriculture to grow vegeable to eat or not? And please, what do you wear on your feet? Plastic? Well, very good environmental thing. And in winter do you wear down jacket? Goose don't thank you. And fishes? Many vegetarians eat fish, and I don't understand why. Surely little lambs are nicer than fishes, but also fishes are livining being. And now, the silliest thing of all. I must premise that I am a biologst, so I see life in a different way from the "common people", maybe. But, basically, can you tell me the difference between a fish and a spinach leaf? Between a cow and a tree? Between a lamb and salad? They are all living being. Yes, vegetables don't move, don't "talk" but they nevertheless live. What is life? We live thanks to an organ called mitocondrio that orginally was a bacterium..... And, btw, if you don't eat meat what do you eat? Legumes, soya (very good transgenetc food), vegetables, fruits.... ok, your choice, but we need space to cultivate them. And Rainforest is a political problem, as everybody knows. Eco-sustainable development is not tied to vegetarism. The concept is totally misunderstood. We need to respect Earth and all its living beings and its materials, minerals and so on. We must put profit a bit below the need to preserve this poor planet. And if someone tells me again that I believe Sting is a God or a Sacred cow I will totally stop to post here. I'm fed up of being misunderstood any time I espress a concept of mine. I speak for myself and not in behalf of Sting of whoever. I'm an adult woman with enough experence to speak for herself. I'm the first to say Sting sometime says nonsense, and I always judge other people ideas with my brain, not following a rockstar mind. I'm fed up with people accusing other people of committing crime for wearing a fur, or eating meat ot other. Please, look for yourself, and let us alone. It's an ideological issue, everybody has the right to do what he wants. Last week a stupid group of animalists freed hundreds of animals from their cages.... they all ended dead. Good move! And above all, I'm fed up with people worried about cats and dogs and never think to terrible problems happening to children all over the world. I am talking of kids, not adult. They have no choice but suffer what others decide for them. But apparently a whale has more value. And I'm NOT saying I agree in killing the whale, but we need to re-establish our ethical norms and their value. Sorry if I am polemic...... Mar 12, 09 | 7:29 am

Sting admitting to eating Wild Boar suits the context. Boars are very common in Tuscany and there are a lot of them. Yesterday I was watching a docu about an English cook who is also a licensed hunter and hunts deer etc. which he then prepares and cooks for his restaurant. He says it is better to know and also more honest to tell people where their dishes come from. Eat and deal locally is the motto. I think that is what Sting was trying to say. Furthermore, he isn't a strict vegetarian. When he eats meat though he likes to say where it comes from. the same with vegetables and other food. No reason to have another of these boring veggie against the rest of the world discussions here.
Everybody has to ask themselves whether they eat and wear is in any way sensible. A better help certainly is to know exactly where it comes from. For example, wearing fur is not necessary for people as there are enough alternatives, eating meat is biologically important for humans but certainly it does you good if you eat meat now and then and it is of good quality. the same with vegetables. Better to know where it was grown and without pesticides and too much fertiliser. Mar 12, 09 | 10:22 am

I am a vegetarian that does not eat meat, wear leather, down, or anything else. I don't use any products with animal by-products in them--including shampoo, soap, deodorant, etc. I don't use anything tested on animals either. I've been doing this for 16 years.
I only give you my background because I also do not believe a person has to be a vegetarian to be an environmentalist. I am, I recycle, I buy 100% post consumer paper, etc, and do what I can to make sure the world is less impacted by me. But I could easily not be conscious of the environment and do none of the recycling, etc. So my point is, a a vegetarian doesn't make an environmentalist and vise-versa. I also believe it is no ones business what they choose to eat or not to eat. Me? I do it for myself. But just like anything else, you cannot control anyone else. I may not believe an animal needs to be killed off for any reason, but I also understand that I don't know a lot about what it takes to do certain things, like farm. Either way, when we start arguing about two sides of this coin, we are just going to go around in circles. Mar 12, 09 | 11:32 am

It still AMAZES me that after near 30 years in the public eye, his fans haven't figured out that he isn't GOD and he's just another average guy...
And by the way, how much of MARKETING do you all think went into this carefully crafted persona of his?? Quote: "Other rock stars live just as lavishly as Sting does - the difference is that relatively few of them have proved as willing as him to back up their words with generous, and often anonymous, donations to causes around the world. But he hasn't always been enthused. Sting was introduced to the Brazilian rainforests by a Belgian author and adventurer named Jean-Pierre Dutilleux, who had made an Oscar-nominated film about the plight of the local Xingu Indians. Sting's initial reaction to Dutilleux's pitch was blunt: "Dolphins, penguins, who gives a ****, JP?" he asked on their first visit to the area." Right, environmentalist... he's just a good musician who writes great songs. I love his music and I think he's great! Isn't that enough?? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-481865/Superstar-hypocrite-Meet-Sting-master-contradictions.html Mar 12, 09 | 12:35 pm

Way to go micra. I am all for animal rights to a certain extent, but I am not an never will be a vegetarian Munch too bad so sad. But your berating people who are not is ridiculious. Bashing Sting because he eats wild boar is also stupid. This is why I don't come on here as much as I used to. Sting is only human like the rest of us, he makes mistakes. Or are you perfect Munch. If they did not allow hunters to kill deer where I live the deer would be overwhelming the environmnent and die of starvation. So instead they can be hunted in limited numbers are are used for food. That's nature being reighned in a needed.

I want to further clarify a point. Sting was asked if he had discovered some new dishes since he lived in Tuscany and he answered wild boar. Simply as that. Wild boar is a typical Tuscan dish, expecially famous are the Pappardelle sul Cinghiale, a pasta dish.
Sting pronounced cinghiale (wild boar) in a very funny way, so people there understood "cicale" (cicada)..... they were puzzled.... btw, in Tuscan slang is a bad word for.... ehm.... ehm... ehm... female. thanks franny and queenbee Mar 12, 09 | 4:13 pm

micra - you're full of it. claming that people who care about animals don't care about people in general and children in particular is a stupid polemic trash. if someone reads this thread carefully they'll notice that the person who is most prejudiced, the one who assumes things about people without knowing anything about them, the one who spreads misinformation is YOU!
You don't know anything about me but you filled several hefty posts with assumptions about my life. I suggest you take a large drink of cold water and try to discuss things in a more logical manner. and enough with the hysterionics. you don't agree with me - fine. but you can be polite about it! Like Brandnew said in another thread lets get drunk with Sting. But that's not what she said Munch. She meant why do people care more about animals then people. Which is not to say that they don't care about people but SEEM to care about animals more. She is trying to say there should be more balance.
Wouldn't you love to be one of the females he has an appetite for??????? Mar 13, 09 | 2:32 pm
