It has been confirmed that Andy and Stewart are under a confidentiality agreement re: The Police.

This is somewhat strange for a band that is suppossed to never play live again. Why can't they speak freely?

According to rumours in the industry, The Police are leaving leaving the brand, marketing machine & legacy in tact yet again (A repeat of 1984 through 2007 where the band never made a formal annoucement that is was done forever but did issue material.) Note Sting's comments on Elvis Costello was he says " I don't like to step in the same river more than twice. Yes, I think its over." [He did not say Never again."

None of the three bandmates will ever say It is finished forever - live or in the studio. Still some of Stew's friends in California have been told that Stewart was getting very tired of Sting's petty control antics of the construction of the songs and the jamming spontaneously had been banned.
Stewart was very upset by the lack of rotating set list plus the fact that Sting has been clinical in his approach to every concert. So it appears Stewart may not want to put up with another go.

Best guess: is that this all fades slowly over time and into the sunset unless Mr Sting gets one more urge to collect huge sums of cash.

So it looks like we all have to let The Police go now and be grateful for the last farewell tour.

Iceman, I personally welcome the rumors and thank you for all the behind the scenes stuff you've revealed so far. It's something amusing and potentially informative to follow. And I definitely would want to hear future rumors about a Sting solo project! Keep 'em coming.

Thanks for the kind words.

I share the rumours when they are flying around in enough places.

There is a wierdness to Sting and all "the surprises" he puts on us. A game and one I think we enjoy to a degree.

I think he is brilliant on all fronts - - including managing his personal brand and marketing it.

Pulling The Police together for one farewell tour at the height of global consumer discretionary spend (before the global collapse) was lucky and smart!

What confounds alot of people is why the confidentiality agreements with Andy and Stewart running through 2009? The tour and The Police are/were over in 2008.

If it is over, why should Stew and Andy have to hold back?

I thought Stewart said (on the last leg of the Tour) something along the lines "we need to drive a stake into The Police once and for all. This is the time."

And, commercially why haven't Stew and Andy immediately reached out to fans about future plans. If it were me, I would tell fans something will come forth - a solo album, project and the like in 2009...stayed tuned via my website.

My guess is that Sting, Andy and Stew (as The Police) have some box set planned for 2009 and it will contain rareities and demos etc. There is so much in the vault - - it needs to be monetized now to yield maximum results. Fans are still hungry...feed them and take the money. So maybe the confidentiality agreements are in place to keep The Police marketing and selling machine going without any new 2008/2009 material - - just old stuff from the vaults? (Notice The Police.com website is still up selling merchandise a half year later!) Fine by me - - where is it?

Sting solo will be cool too. I want the Broken Music or Soul Cages band back.

Ultimate - - Sting, Lyle Workman, Dom, Vinnie and David Sancious

I have to agree with that Ice. That band would kick ass. But I think Vinnie and David are a little too busy for now.

The rumors are going to be there forever and a day. Nothing will happen yntil it happens if it happens. But for now they have probably had enough of each other. Although they seemed to be having more fun toward the end. Maybe because they knew they were almost done.

Stewart lives to irritate and to be irritated by Sting. Andy has to whip them both into shape.

One hardly sounds 'grateful' while blatantly inferring that Sting's entire motivation for that reunion was simply to 'cash' in.
It's a strong possibility that he had been simultaneously suffering a creativity slump and an identity crisis -- what better time to take the diehard holdouts and the casual poppy Police fans on a nostalgia trip? I don't think the guy would ever again hurt for money and judging from how he donates, I would never think he could be accused of being filled with extraordinary greed. Yet some around seem so friggin compelled to tag him with such a very flimsy line of criticism.

It was not criticism. There were probably many reasons but does anyone really think money, timing, career/brand didn't play a role for Sting?

Would he really have done it for just a little bit of money? Stew said he would have done it to play for charity.

Whatever, I don't care...glad they did it. Now awaiting a fired up rockin Sting solo.

Is Sting under the same Non Disclosure agreement as the other members of the band also in terms of talking about future Police endevours. I mean we have heard him say we are done. Andy during the tour saying an album was possible and Stewart saying I miss home.

It wouldn't suprise me that they all would have to sign such an agreement. Possibly Andy is going to more or less retire now or go back and be the photographer rather than the musician. Maybe Stewart would rather go back to doing movie and tv tracks where he isn't going to get hounded by fans and hacks all together. Maybe neither knows what they will do next musically speaking so instead of getting ones fan base's hopes up simply doesn't say anything.

If its true that Stewart is going to do a book I think it would be in his best interests not to talk about the Police tour or his feelings regarding it if that is going to be part of the book.

Sorry ... I'm cranky, semi-unemployed, decafinated by doctors choice (blood pressure and such are fine by the way) just short term memory is closer to no term memory at times :D or is that :( and I was going to add something else but I already forgot what it was going to be.

Sigh is it summer yet? We had 2 days in the upper 50's and one day where it was 60. I broke out the sun tan lotion and the water wings :D and next thing I know artic blast from hell hits (again).

I know.... if you don't like the weather outside... blink your eyes twice and you will see a change....

nope still grey, froggey, and drizzly.

iceman keep it coming. Don't stop posting just because of some faggeties in here. Besides I have always said all along that I don't think it is over for the Police. There is still a chance that they will get back together. What is STing going to do?? another boring solo record. He needs to chill and let go of some of that ego driven control freak attitude. Yes judging from what happened last year, STing's main reason for reuniting was for money and his sagging solo career

wonderful micra. ;) when you seek out factual information, and remain so kind enough to share this excellent news with the rest of us, it only helps to give you an extra amount of credibility. you continue to impress us everyday. :)

by the way, i welcome reggadabla's remarks of such a personal sort and derogatory manner. it only fortifies any particular opinion i may hold regarding the stereotype of his ilk. :) the odd thing is that he wishes to contribute to this forum and be taken seriously - yet he continues to comment in such adolescent terms.
yet since i remain under the impression that his preferred manner of discourse will continually be tolerated by the creator of this website, we must do our best not to engage such remarks all that much - nor dare to retaliate in defensive tones of a similar nature - for fear of the possibility of our very own exile. :)

and this quote is extremely encouraging:

“Rock music is quite simple. Great, but simple. If you learn three or four chords, you will be able to play. It is completely fine, but at this time of my life, I am looking for something more complex, which would engage my intellect more.”

and also, engage our intellects as well. :)

and I also love the quote about Bach and Mozart having done everything yet... I remember 30 years or so ago Sting said "I know we [The Police] won't be able to surpass our masters, The Beatles" Different situations and different ages. Our intellects hopefully grow with our age......
But, as he clearly pointed out, simple Rock is very good. There is more, there are different things from good ol' Rock'n Roll. Luckily we have time and mood for everything, musically speaking! ;-)

This is what I love about micra. I have never met her but we have become friends through our love of music. We don't agree 100% but we respect each others opinions. I thank you for the information micra and I am so glad to know he has composed new music.

Love of Classical music was a given when I was young. My Father listened frequently. I listen all the time and think it is exciting. I hope I have given my children the same appreciation. So do the same for your children so it doesn't become a lost art.

Reggadabla when you said the word faggeties I just thought that was unnecessary. And we love iceman we just don't always agree with the rumors whether they are true or not and thats not icemans fault he is just relaying what he has read or heard. I didn't disagree with what you said just that word. We don't know what Sting will do in the future and The Police may tour again or record. It all depends on how they all feel about it but I suppose Sting has the rip cord on that one since he is the main composer. It just seems that they all did this for closure, not the money, at least not at first and it blew into gigantic proportions which even surprised them. So money may be a motivation in the long run.

See I was a good girl and did that in one post. Ok so it was long but it was only ONE. If there is a typo I'll shoot myself.

franny to answer your question and dismiss the other children, I simply agreed with others that he should still post. everytime someone posts something about the police and not STing, certain people digress and act like little school girls. First I thought ok slang term for Ciggs or something but...

Well I'd have to assume that somebody will be irked with this next comment but my wife would love to see/hear Sting explore more instrumental works in jazz or classical....

I see we are back in the "Romper Room" section again...

ICE- keep us up-to-date with the list of "clues"; they are always interesting to read to say the least.

The CI Agreement was probably in place for a while to cover one of the following:

1) In case Sting (or the others) wanted to move ahead again with The Police.
2) Provide Sting with a "quite area" so he could mull over his options & next move.
3) Provide Sting with some time & distance so he could "escape" again from The Police.
4) Or it's just a normal part of the big $$$ music business.

Beautiful day! Anyone care for a root-beer float?
