I think it would be very cool if the band was a modern version of the turtles........ Omar Hakim on Drums, Sting on the Bass, Dom on the guitar and Bradford Marsailis on the Sax. I will always miss Kenny Kirkland, maybe David Sanctious on the keyboards. What do you think? May 20, 08 | 5:54 pm

It would be great.... but also Jason Rebello, John Freese and Chris Bott wouldn't be a bad choice. Dominic of course......;-)

As long as Dominic comes back, Sting can hire whom ever he wants, in my opinion. I'd really like to see Freese make a return as well. His energy was really something. I saw him on the BM tour and he he truly phenomenal.

I would love to see an all star cd. Record songs with various musicians Sting has crossed paths with in the past. Maybe Stewart, Andy and Branford on one track. Clapton, Freese and Botti on another track. The sky is the limit. Maybe the new combinations could inspire Sting to write the best tracks in years. Just a thought

Ooh I'll join you Micra and 9, I could play those shaky things like Manu Katche has, I think I could manage that! :D
Leftee your line-up looks perfect to me, something that resembles the Ten Summoners band would be great!! I hope he considers working with some of those old musicians!! On the other hand, it might be fun to have a completely new band, with Dominic of course! And yeah some famous guest appearences on his next album would be cool too! May 20, 08 | 9:24 pm

Billy Kilson. He kicks ass. Ok really.
Sting-bass vocals Dominic Miller- guitar Jason Robello-or keyboards Gerry Richardson or Jools Holland Branford Marsalis-sax/clarinet Chris Botti trumpet Billy Kilson or Josh Freese or- drums Vinnie Colaiuta Oops that might be a jazz band Oh Leftee at first I thought you meant The Turtles May 20, 08 | 9:32 pm

Lol Gonefishing, I could definitely see Coco in Sting's band and if Fiction Plane split up maybe Joe would be there too!! But how is poor Coco going to play guitar and keyboards? That would be some talent, lol! :P Mickey and Kate would be backing singers of course! And maybe Giacomo has been learning to play the drums!! It could happen! ;-)

How about a complete different line-up to mark a new era....
My dream is about a tour without a single song from his Police/Solo story...only new material !!! Now, that would be cool after a full immersion in nostalgia.... May 20, 08 | 9:37 pm

well GhoSting.... that would be really taking risk! ;-)))
Mickey can play drums. And Joe too. Actually I have some videos with Sting playing BND and Joe playing drums or guitar (different tv shows... lol). Mickey also play flute so she can join Chris or Branford. May 20, 08 | 9:50 pm

Actually I've posted before what I want.
Dom back on guitar. Sting on Bass. Robello on Keyboard. Colaiuta or Freese on drums. Botti on Trumpet, Marsalis-sax/clarinet. A jazzy ten summoners tail approach.... May 20, 08 | 10:17 pm

Sting's been to many styles. Maybe he will consider trying to tackle so-called 'alternative' sound, one that FP has.
And I'm pretty sure or pretty hopeful at least that there'll be John Mayer's guest appearance on the album. John broke out basically right after Sting's done BND album. Sacred Love was a drastically different format for John to be in, he just never got a chance to work with him. So, I guess he basically will have waited for about a decade by the time Sting releases a new album. May 20, 08 | 11:19 pm

the recipe in the studio:
guitar - a lotta Dominic Miller, a little Lyle Workman, an iota of Sting keyboards - Philip Aaberg , a contribution or two from Jason Rebello drums - a healthy portion of Mark Brzezicki, a dash of Keith Carlock here and there, with the touch of Manu Katche' thrown in --- and the added garlic courtesy of Maestro Colaiuta on at least one track. percussion - Rhani Krija, a dose of Talvin Singh wild card - Mark Isham on trumpet, soprano sax, keyboards, violin, production obligatory special guest on one track - Mr Jeff Beck on guitar touring lineup: Sting - bass, vocal Dominic Miller - guitars Mark Isham - trumpet, soprano sax, keyboards, violin Philip Aaberg - keyboards Mark Brzezicki - drums Rhani Krija - percussion May 20, 08 | 11:21 pm

i'm really thinking Beck won't quite fit in with Sting's material. He did good on "Down So Long" but that was a blues song that needed some dirty (in a good sense) solo.

'tis unwise to pigeonhole Mr Beck as some one-lick in his bag bluesman. I saw the guy live back in 2006 and he was experimenting with various styles all over the place. 'twas a fusion lovers dream concert - a lot of jazz tones, country finger-pickin', shredding metal, and even arabic scales -- to name but a few of the styles on display.

i assure you glarb i saw those live recordings on youtube, and i'm a big fan of his version of "Stratus". i simply don't see how Sting could edge him in on a record and what sound or idea would make Sting do it.
If you know Sting's attitude towards recording, and i'm sure you know, then you should remember his way about putting guest appearances on the record. To make him use some high-profile musician there has to be a concept first that really needs an alien element thrown into a song. Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton appeared on They Dance Alone and you can hear it in the mix their presence if audible only for those in the know (with all respect to subtle parts that they played on the track). Having an another capital-M Musician play on Sting's record is basically letting him inside the structured song composed by Sting and Sting prefers to have his music under his control, if you know that i mean. also, as a guitarist I'm quite familiar with Beck signature tone, which stays pretty much in the same vein as far as i'm concerned, therefore most of my observations regarding a possibility of his presence on the record is based on my understanding, as a guitarist, of guitar work, style and tone of Dom, Lyle, Andy etc. and comparing it with that of Beck. It didn't click for me.

Yeah, except Andy and Stewart would never agree to be part of Sting's band. So, that ain't happening. (no tears from me about that)
It'd be great if he got young new musicians to freshen things up. I'm not good with names but there are a lot of young bands to choose from. May 21, 08 | 4:53 pm

Omar on drums (that drum solo during IB4U on BOTN DVD is forever embedded in my mind. Orgasmic!). If not, then Billy Kilson on drums. Botti hit the jackpot there. Dom of course. Branford. A Medium to bring Kenny back. ;0)
New generation? John Mayer. Amazing live and he loves Sting. There's usually a line or 2 of Sting inserted into a song at each concert ie, a bit of IB4U during Wonderland. May 21, 08 | 10:38 pm

Sorry, I wasn't clear. JM has sung a bit of IB4U in the middle of Your Body's a Wonderland. He's also done bits of Tea in the middle of another song on one of my boots too.

Well if you have ever seen Chris in concert not doing BND. You'd think differently.
Chris Botti, with Billy Kilson ,James Genus, Mark Whitfield and Billy Childs on keyboards. This focuses on Billy Kilson's drumming but just listen to Chris's horn. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZu5M5nVzhA May 22, 08 | 7:40 am

Himself?
His nose? Maybe Trudy on backing keyboards? Does it matter? I wouldn't expect a continuation of what he has done before. He's been down that path and conquered it. I think that this Reunion Tour is also serving as some sort of "demarcation point" for Sting. Another transition and transformation would be possible. May 23, 08 | 7:07 pm
