Ok, what has anybody heard about the POLICE returning to the usa in the summer of 2008?

I'll start..... I've heard the band will be back for a one month leg playing outdoor venues, but not stadiums, instead, traditional Sting outdoor sites. I've heard specific venues but don't want to say which ones.

We can only hope. But where all we they gig. That is the question. Johnny I saw your post about re-signing for TPT.com. I won't unless they give us a great deal from sting.com.

Someone on another board is claiming to have info on a show at the Qwest Center in Omaha on May 14.

i'd love to harvest Putin's organs and invest in bringing the Police over here for a gig.
but then, russians just won't listen to anything that doesn't sound like pop or metal..... fusk, this country....

Though I suppose a return to the states would be great for those who somehow missed their original tour here, I'm afraid I have a contrarian point of view.......I'm ready for this Police Reunion tour to be over. It will soon be a year and a half of playing the same 20 songs over and over, night after night. Call me bored, but I'm ready for something new: a new Police album would be fabulous, however unlikely. Failing that, I hope Our Hero returns to writing material for a new album, soon.

When they do return for their (hopefully) final leg of the tour, I certainly do hope they change the setlist a bit. thumper is right, these same old 20 songs are getting tiresome and there are so many other gems in their catalog that haven't been used yet. Tea in the Sahara, Bring on the night...etc.

Maybe this return will mark something like "ok, fans, now seriously" and they'll belt out the whole set of minor hits and fill-ins.

I'd like to see a summer show @ Alpine Valley in Wisconsin. It's a great venue!

I was on ticketmaster yesterday, checking out any listings for the future, and it listed "The Police with Elvis Costello: Dates booked internationally", but no details. I checked back today, and it had been removed. The same thing happened this time last year when the reunion rumours were getting heated. They had dates listed with ridiculous prices like $225 a ticket and it didn't seem right at the time....but it happened. So any shows with Elvis Costello opening are probably for North American shows, as the Europe dates have all been announced without mention of his involvement. Maybe the announcement this Thursday is the new and final leg of the tour.

Wow! I LOVE Elvis Costello's music. Plus, I have a few friends who are deeply into Elvis Costello and would actually pay the big bucks it takes to view The Police live without the assistance of the Hubble telescope if Elvis Costello is really going to perform too. SIGH****Just when I vowed to leave my plastic alone . . .

Johnny, its most likely it will be The summerfest grounds if there is one in Wisconsin, if we're basing it on traditional Sting venues.

Some of the cities include Buffalo, Columbus, Chicago, Kansas City, Omaha, Orlando - you get the drift. There are about 14 cities in May and July, with a more or less final date set for Long Island's Jones Beach on Aug. 4.

Chicago = Allstate Arena....(disgust) Why? Why? Why?
They should just put them in a big tin pot and let them play as it would have better acoustics. Well, it should be very "nostalgic" for them and the fans as it was called the Rosement Horizon when they last played there in the 1980's. It stunk then and stinks now! At least they'll be playing in Milwaukee at the Marcus.

It's nice to see you have the same problems we have in Italy.... acoustic is often so horrible that you cannot detect a bass from a sax. I'm not kidding.... :-((

I saw Sting at the Allstate Arena in 2000. I don't remember it being that horrible sounding. Though it was my first time seeing him, so the joy of that could have made me ignore any problems. I do agree, however, that they could have chosen many better spots. If they were indeed going for smaller, more intimate venues, I would suggest the Chicago Theater. I saw a concert there a few years ago and was absolutely blown away. Not only is there not a single bad seat in the house, the sound is rich and full. Oh well...at least I get to see them one more time before it all ends. My only hope is that the setlist does include a few "surprises" as they said it would.

24- Chicago Theatre would be great, but probably too small. On Sacred Love he also played the Rosemont Theatre which I heard was great. I hear the new Sears Centre is also nice (buy the old Popular Creek Ampitheatre...my first Sting show in '85!). I was hoping that they do something like that...maybe Northerly Island on the lakefront. On this tour, I liked how they sounded better in the arenas than outdoor shows anyhow...but my experiences in the Allstate have been poor to say the least.

Sport - the Chicago Theater is indeed too small for a band like the Police. At least for the kind of money they are trying to make. I do wish I could have seen Sting perform at the Theater on the BND tour. It's quite possibly my favorite venue period. Perhaps on his next solo tour he'll start off once again with smaller places.

During the Broken Music Tour, the band played at the UIC pavilion which was very fitting for that band/tour; the run down, college atmosphere was great. The sound was rough and uncompromising. I was surprised at how awesome the whole thing was. I was expecting it to not sound great given the arena. Maybe the Police should have considered it.

But alas, if it has to be the Allstate, I'll go see them at the Allstate. For all the bitching I've done as of late about the band sounding tired and sloppy, I can't help but want to see them one last time before the curtain goes down on the Police for good.

Yes, I wish I wouldn't have 'boycotted" the UIC-gig/BM Tour. I was lucky enough to see him do the Grant Park gig for the start of SL. What a night that was!

I do wish that The Police would do some "Fan Club Only" gigs in the major markets like Chicago. I would have done the Vancouver gig, but by that time I was soooo indebt with three of their other shows. The Chicago Theatre would be perfect for such a thing.

The one thing that does surprise me is that they haven't made an appearance on SNL as of yet. Between the tour & taping schedules...it probably hasn't worked out for them as of yet. Could you imagine being in the audience for that one?

The only thing better I can think of, Sport, is being in the Unplugged audience if that ever went through. That would truly be an experience. As it stands now, I only hope that this last leg of the tour is filled with surprises. There are plenty of gems still left unperformed. And I do believe the band was maybe playing it a bit too safe by sticking to the standard hits. If they went a bit outside those boundaries, I think they'd see an overwhelming response from the crowd.

I agree...Sting has been very careful to play it safe throughout. I also think that he would be surprised if he changed things up a bit and perhaps even added a touch of new music. No one is asking him to write a classic Police hit...but an outgoing piece would make for a wonderful epilogue here.

DSSCTM '86 doesn't cut it...but it may have been appropiate at that time.

Brandnew, how can you post something like "I heard they were going to be election," and subsequently ask me to explain the obvious???
